Transition Services
Transition planning and services are required by IDEA in order to facilitate students’ transition from school to postsecondary settings. The three areas that this planning targets are employment, postsecondary education and training, and independent living and community involvement. Transition planning is an important part of a student’s secondary education, as it helps them develop goals and prepares them for life after graduation.

Overview
The Secondary Transition and Employment Program of Pottstown is a community-based program that allows students who receive special education services an opportunity to learn, develop, and strengthen skills that are necessary for successful employment and independence.

Work Study
Pottstown High School’s Work Study program provides an opportunity for students to explore real-world vocational opportunities outside of the traditional classroom setting, with help from community partners. This program allows students to explore potential career fields and determine an employment goal that they otherwise may not have been exposed to in school. Work Study is a volunteer-based program and is supported by a school staff member acting as a job coach. It uses multi-tiered levels of support that fit each student’s particular needs.

Paid Work Experience
Pottstown High School’s Paid Work Experience program allows students to gain competitive employment in the community while earning high school credit. Students in this program learn skills needed to gain and maintain employment prior to starting their work experience. This program encourages students to develop independence while using school personnel as a resource. This is an opportunity for students to experience first-hand knowledge of a particular job while earning a paycheck!
