Curriculum and Instruction

The Pottstown School District. . .

. . .serves the academic needs of students from Pre-Kindergarten through Grade 12, offering programming needs Sara Miller, Science teacher's classroom with studentsto support the interests and talents of our students.

In order to support academic achievement, Pottstown School District has embraced the STEAM (Science, Technology, Engineering, Arts, and Math) initiative by supporting our staff through professional development measures and by enhancing our classrooms and curriculum with hands-on and collaborative resources aimed at promoting critical thinking.

Understanding that literacy is a crucial component of academic success, our teachers are trained in the brain development of language and reading using an adult-learning professional development module called Language Essentials for Teachers of Reading and Spelling (LETRS). We are proud to utilize a research-based core reading program so that our earliest readers have access to resources and curriculum that align to PA Core Standards and current research. The understanding of brain science underpins our literacy instruction that begins in the primary grades and continues through high school.

Our district has fought to maintain programs that support the development of the whole child such as programming in the arts, physical education, and music because we believe that opportunities in the arts and wellness support academic success.

Classroom at Lincoln Elementary School with students and teacherPottstown School District is proud to offer students in grades 10-12 a Career & Technical Education (CTE) option within the walls of our high school, providing students with both a rigorous academic foundation and access to a set of technical skills needed in the job market. CTE affords students the opportunity to study core content areas through the lens of real-world application, often in projects based within the Pottstown community.

At Pottstown School District, we understand that sometimes a one-on-one approach is what it takes to realize a child's innermost possibility. Pottstown's Virtual Learning Academy (VLN) adapts to fit every child by combining unique curriculum, dedicated teachers, involved parents & guardians, and a technology platform built for virtual schools.

We have 100% of our teaching staff highly qualified to be educating our students in the content areas, meaning that our students have access to the most knowledgeable teachers in their field of study. Our staff engages in professional development opportunities throughout the year to stay current on educational research, to review individual student data and plan for focused instruction, and to gain a competitive technological edge that supports students in learning.
