Parent Resources

At Home

  • Help your child be organized - know your child's school schedule and make sure he/she gets enough sleep each night
  • Make time for family time - play board games, visit the library together, talk about each other's day
  • Help your child choose books that match his/her likes and interests
  • Read a recipe and cook something yummy together
  • Ask your child to add items to the grocery list and put your child in charge of reading the grocery list at the store
  • Ask questions about what your child has read
    • What was the problem in the story?
    • How did the character feel when...?
    • What do you think will happen next?
    • Does the story remind you of another book, an event in your life, or of a movie?
  • Don't be afraid to read the same book again!  Repeated reading helps build fluency.
Encourage 20 minutes of reading each night of the week!
