New PHS Program Brings Girls Opportunities

The Pottstown School District Board of Education established a new co-curricular program for the 23-24 school year. The Girls Wrestling team has created opportunities for both middle and high school girls to challenge their competitive spirit and provide opportunity for personal growth, self-confidence, resiliency, communication skills, and teamwork. Most recently, the girls participated in an individual tournament at Central Bucks High School. They competed with over 350 other girl wrestlers. Vida Torres pinned her way to the finals competition, and eventually placed second. Malaysia Williams scored a 28 second pin during the tournament. Allyana Sykes, Isbella Wright, Riley Maguire all picked up valuable experience and learning opportunities for future improvement. For the first time, girl wrestlers are being ranked in PIAA District 1, which includes over 60 schools in southeast Pennsylvania. Earning honorable mention recognition are Tara Morgan, and Triniti Rhodes. Vida Torres is ranked second in her weight class and Savannah Richards is ranked first in the district at 118 pounds. https://www.pa-wrestling.com/hs-girls/district1/rankings.htm At the state level both Savannah and Vida have earned honorable mention status. https://www.pa-wrestling.com/hs-girls/rankings.htm They are representing our district and community with pride, honor, and good sportsmanship, giving us more reason to say, proud to be from Pottstown. Please help share the good news.
