Reclassification & Monitoring
The English Language Development (ELD) program is designed to equip students with the social and academic English skills they need to thrive in mainstream classrooms. We understand that language acquisition takes time, with conversational skills developing in as little as two years, while academic proficiency can take five to seven years. For students with limited or no prior schooling, it may take even longer.
Pottstown School District follows Pennsylvania Department of Education guidelines for the reclassification and monitoring of English Learners (ELs) to Former English Learners (FELs). Click on the link here for PDE exit criteria.
