What Do These People Have in Common

They are all graduates of Pottstown High School and are part of the 134 year tradition in the Pottstown School District of excellence in education.
 
Mike Lunn – Class of 1956 – Played baseball and football and received most of his recognition as a catcher. He was awarded the Sandy Hill MVP in 1955 and was a member of the PHS baseball team that won 48 straight games and was inducted into the Cooperstown Hall of Fame. He played at West Chester State Teachers College and taught physical education before retiring in 1993. He coached all secondary levels and excelled as the head wrestling coach at Boyertown High School.
 
Marvin Whitehurst – Class of 1972 – He helped to lead the Pottstown High School baseball team to Ches-Mont League championships in 1971 and 1972. As a senior, he had a 5-1 pitching record with a 1.96 ERA and had 47 strikeouts in 37 innings pitched. He hit 364 and led the Trojans with four homeruns and 21 RBIs. He is considered one of the fastest pitchers to ever play at PHS. He was drafted by the Pittsburgh Pirates 1973 and played three seasons. With nearly 1,000 times at bat, he had a 250 average, 25 doubles, 9 triples, 19 homeruns, and stole 30 bases.
 
John “Jay” Nash – Class of 1972 – He graduated with 9 varsity letters and was a standout in wrestling, track, and football. He was a heavyweight Sectional Champ two years and a Regional Champ once. He had a senior year record of 19-1-1. He held the shot put record at PHS for many years. As a football player he was named First Team Offense and Defense, All Ches-Mont, and also Defensive Player of the Year. He played in the Big 33 and the Montgomery County All-Star games and received a full scholarship to Maryland where he was a three-year starter on the offensive line. He played in the Liberty, Gator, and Cotton Bowls.
 
Brian Campbell – Class of 1989 – He was a three time sectional champ and was named outstanding wrestler of those tournaments twice, a two time Southeast Regional champ, and a two time State Qualifier. As a senior, he won the Silver medal in the State Tournament at 140 pounds and finished with a career record of 100 wins, 13 losses. As a football player, he led the area in total yards his senior year with 1,249 rushes, 202 yards receiving, and 38 passing. He scored 122 points on 22 touchdowns and two extra points.
 
Stan Glenn – Class of 1982 – Won eight varsity letters while at PHS in football, basketball, and track. He received numerous All Ches-Mont honors in all three sports and accepted a full scholarship to the Citadel where he majored in business administration. He was named Freshman of the Year in 1983 as a running back. He graduated as a Second Lieutenant and is currently a special education teacher and football coach in South Carolina.
 
Dina Browne – Received an associate’s degree in social science from Montgomery County Community College, a Bachelor of Science degree in psychology from Chestnut Hill College, graduating summa cum laude. She was a stay-at-home mom who ran a business from home promoting parenting products.
 
Heather Cassidy Costello – She is a graduate of Temple University and is the Senior Vice President In Retail Strategic Markets for the Harte-Hanks Direct Marketing Company.
 
Craig Feight – He graduated from California State University with a BS in business administration and accounting. He is a Certified Public Accountant and a Certified Government Financial Manager.
Karen Joseph Kent – She earned a bachelor’s degree at Penn State University and then a master’s degree from Rush University in Chicago. She is an Assistant Professor in Health Services and Administration at Xavier University.
 
Todd Moyer – He received a Bachelor of Science degree in computer science from Shippensburg University and is the Senior Vice President of marketing at Trump Marina Hotel Casino in Atlantic City. Previous to this, he served as Executive Director of Marketing for Tropicana Resort and Casino and Vice President of Marketing for the Hard Rock Hotel and Casino.
 
Karen Pharaoh Murphy – She received a Bachelor of Science degree in architectural engineering from Penn State University and is nationally certified as a lighting design professional. She was accepted into the International Association of Lighting Designers and has served as a township commission for Hope Well Township.
 
KaKarolyn Williams Miller – She graduated from the University of Pittsburgh with a Bachelor’s degree in psychology. She received a Master’s degree in rehabilitation counseling and owns her own business providing management services for employer insurance carriers and attorneys.
 
Charles Embody – Served seven years in the United States Navy and was stationed in Morocco, North Africa and Washington, D.C. After leaving the service, he became a policeman in Washington, D.C. retiring as a sergeant and then went to work for the Navy Department as a locksmith at the Patuxent River Naval Base before retiring in 2005.
 
Richard Fidler – He was the owner of Bradley Tire LTD for 32 years and served as a Daniel Boone school board member for 16 years.
 
Peter Grubb – He is a graduate of East Texas State University majoring in art and health and physical education. He first taught art and was an athletic trainer for the Bel Air High School in El Paso, Texas. For the next 35 years, he taught art and was the athletic trainer at South Garland High School in Garland, Texas. Retiring in 2004, he is a freelance graphic artist.
 
David Heslin – He joined the Navy after graduation and served for 24 years. In 1985, he opened a recruiting agency and worked in the movie industry and started a real estate company.
 
Nancy Hutt Deegan – She graduated from West Chester University with a BS in elementary education and received a master’s degree from Penn State University. She spent her entire working career as a teacher in the Pottstown School District retiring in 2004.
