I am an honor graduate of the Pottsgrove School District. I attended Millersville State College (now known as Millersville University) where I earned a Bachelor of Science in Education: Elementary Education with a concentration in Reading. I taught for the Archdiocese of Philadelphia at both St. Aloysius School in Pottstown (1st and 2nd grade) and St. Mary's School, Delphi (6th, 7th, and 8th grade Reading, Social Studies, and Music) until I was hired by the Pottstown School District to teach developmental Reading at the Pottstown Junior High School for both 7th and 8th grades. When the Middle School was created, I also added 6th grade Reading to my teaching schedule. During this time period, I earned my first Masters degree in Education with a Reading Specialist Certificate. I also became primarily a 7th grade Language Arts teacher for Pottstown Middle School where our team initiated watershed studies and interdisciplinary studies.
For a two year time period, I transferred to Rupert Elementary School where I taught both 3rd and 5th grade. I then returned to Pottstown Middle School to join a 6th grade teaching team, but quickly moved back to grade 7 Language Arts as our school embarked upon its large renovation. Upon returning to our beautiful new building, we brought developmental and eventually remedial Reading instruction to the 7th and 8th grade, so I returned to my Reading roots. During this time period, I returned to school myself, attending Temple University, where I earned another Masters degree in Curriculum, Instruction, and Technology. About three years ago, I asked to return to teaching Language Arts and am thrilled to be doing just that for grade 8.
Mr. Pettine and I have been married for over 30 years and were blessed to raise two sons who are both honor graduates of Pottsgrove High School and the Pennsylvania State University (WE ARE...PENN STATE!). We enjoy traveling to State College, PA, to watch the Nittany Lions play football. This year we are also season ticket holders for Temple University football games which are played at Lincoln Financial Field. GO OWLS! In my spare time I love to read, do needle work, follow the Philadelphia Phillies, go to concerts, and create paper crafts. My favorite place to visit is the beach.
I am looking forward to getting to know your 8th graders this year. I think our Language Arts content is enriching and the 8th grade year is exciting.
