Student GradTrojan Proud of Pottstown High School Senior Jayniana Williams she is proof that hard work can make dreams come true. Next year she will be attending Stanford University on a full academic scholarship. Read what she has to say as she reflects on her high school experience and looks to the future. Jayniana Williams, another reason to say proud to be from Pottstown.

Where will you be going to school: Stanford University

What if any kind of scholarship did you receive: Stanford Fund Scholarship (Covers cost of tuition, room and board, and other student expenses)

What do you plan to major in: I plan to major in human biology with a concentration in global health. Stanford is perfect for me because of its interdisciplinary approach to academics, which will allow me to study various topics that peak my interest: foreign languages, business, and arts.

What are your career goals: I will become a physician who specializes in pediatric oncology or aesthetics, ultimately opening my own practice as a business owner.

What do you look forward to about the college experience: I look forward to the challenge that an institution like Stanford University presents. Journeying outside of my comfort zone and learning something new from people who perform at the top of their fields is exciting to me.

What do you think about going so far from home: Moving almost 3,000 miles away from home is frightening, however the unconditional support from family and friends never fades away. The beautiful weather on the Golden Coast of California makes the transition even better!

cheerleaderWhich high school classes do you think have best prepared you for the future: Career and technical courses such as health tech, finance, and economics, have best prepared me for the real world. As a Montco Dual Enrollment student, I took courses like sociology and cultural competency. These hands-on courses enabled me to ask complex real-world questions and gain insight from people who originate from diverse backgrounds.

Who has made a positive impact on your life: My mother, who built a family and forged a legacy as a single parent, is my inspiration. Her strength reminds me of the power of unconditional love, as a means to create a better tomorrow. She is the type of woman I aspire to be.

Any words of wisdom for underclassmen: The moment you decide that your education is a gift rather than a burden, you are unstoppable. I know that it’s common to grow tired of the education system, however it’s vital to remember that someone fought for you to be in the position you are in - to have the luxury of an education. Knowledge is power; if you are the smartest person in the room, you are in the wrong place.

What makes you proud to be a Trojan: Each student from Pottstown possesses their own unique strength because we encounter hurdles that people from affluent backgrounds never do. Being a Trojan is symbolic of the resilience that exists in our community. I’m proud to be a Trojan, as we are stronger because of where we come from.
