event of an incident at the Limerick Generating Station

In the event of an incident at the Limerick Generating Station, the Pottstown School District has developed an emergency plan for sheltering or evacuation of students if necessary.

Dear Parent/Guardian:

In the event of an incident at the Limerick Generating Station, the Pottstown School District has developed an emergency plan for sheltering or evacuation of students if necessary. To help you understand the steps that will be taken to ensure your child's safety and provide you with the opportunity to develop an adequate family emergency plan, please note the following:

  • Sheltering Advisory – Students will be kept in their school building until the advisory is lifted. Should the Sheltering Advisory delay the dismissal of students, do not attempt to pick up your child during sheltering. It is vital for you and your child's safety to stay indoors. Emergency information will be sent to you using our Mass Communication System and can be found on PCTV, the school district website www.pottstownschools.org, and through the Pottstown School District email information service (you must provide the school office with your email address).

  • Evacuation Order – In the event of an Evacuation Order that does not provide sufficient time to send children home and complete the normal dismissal schedule, students will be bused directly to our host school (Emmaus High School). School staff will accompany students during the evacuation and maintain accurate attendance records to ensure safety and provide the opportunity for you to be reunited with your children as quickly and as conveniently as possible. The host school (Emmaus High School, 500 Macungie Ave., Emmaus, PA 18049) is located in the East Penn School District in Emmaus which is approximately 24 miles from Pottstown. Directions to Emmaus include taking Route 100 North to Route 29. The school is on Route 29 as you enter Emmaus. We ask that you drive safely to the host school. Your child will be waiting for you under the supervision of school staff. Should you choose to not have your child sent to the host school and instead pick them up at their Pottstown School District school building, we ask that you use the designated parking and pickup areas for each school so that school driveways and access roads are open for the evacuation buses. If you plan to pick up your child in Pottstown and the evacuation buses arrive before you pick up your child, we will take him/her to Emmaus High School.
