PHS basketball teams up early to support charitable event

Getting up early to go to work or school can be a challenge for any of us. Motivated by the commitment to help support worthy causes the Pottstown High School girls and boys basketball team players and coaches were all on time for a 3 AM  Sunday morning team departure to Philadelphia to do their part helping over 20,000 participants in the Philadelphia Art Museum Rocky Balboa Run, which serves as a fundraiser for a number of charitable organizations.

Players helped at aid stations along the race route, providing water and assistance to runners as needed. Some were race guides that made sure runners stayed on course. At the finish line they were on hand to assist runners and present awards.

Brittany Stevenson, one of the girls coaches said, some valuable life lessons were learned today by our players, the importance of living up to the responsibility of making a commitment and the willingness to give personal time and effort to help others. They  were also able to raise some funds for the basketball program.  Boys head coach Kenny Ivory said team events like this serve as the foundation for their adult life and continuing civic responsibility and community engagement.
