PHS grad honored for life, saving efforts

Trojan, proud of Roslyn Whitehurst PHS class of 1974. Recently she was recognized as the recipient of the Doctor Charles Drew Lifesaver Award for her service as a blood donor. Over the years, she has donated a total of 15 gallons of life-saving blood. Her selfless efforts as a donor have been instrumental in helping to save the lives of hundreds of individuals.

A resident of Newcastle County, Delaware, she was honored with a county proclamation declaring February 19 Roslyn Whitehurst day.

After graduating from PHS, she went on to West Chester State College, where she graduated in 1978 with a degree in health and physical education. Roslyn had a distinguished career as a high school teacher retiring in 2012. Roslyn‘s life is deeply rooted in her faith which led her to attending the Philadelphia College of Bible; Chesapeake Bible College and Seminary graduating Cum Laude with a degree in Bible studies, she is also a Minister of the Gospel.

Reflecting on her amazing contributions she said I have donated blood over the course of years because I have a sense, understanding and know the need for this life giving call. The life of flesh is in the blood. The need and harvest is great, but the laborers are few. I believe it is a part of the call of God in my life. I am humbled by the recognition.

When asked to give students some words of wisdom, she said if you can help someone as you pass along, serve, help and love someone through your giving service.
