Ms. Johnson's Healthcare Technology Class

Health Occupations I, II & III

The Healthcare Technology Course in the Career and Technical Center at Pottstown High School provides students with the opportunity to explore various healthcare careers in order to make an informed decision on a career path.  This course is a three year course that introduces students to the healthcare profession.  Students begin by learning about the healthcare industry, the history of healthcare, various occupations, educational requirements, insurance, legal and ethical issues in healthcare.  In their second year students study anatomy and physiology.  They explore every system in the human body and common diseases that affect those systems.  The third year in the course is dedicated to learning how to care for patients.   Students gain real world experience by caring for actual patients in a local care facility.  Students use the knowledge they gained over the three year course to excel on the National Occupational Competency Institutes Health Assisting exam.  This exam measures the technical skills and knowledge base students need to gain an entry level position in the field of healthcare.   Students also have the opportunity to obtain certifications in the healthcare industry.
