The week that was: Daniel rushed for 45 yards and two touchdowns as the Trojans (6-5) notched their first postseason win since the PIAA realignment in 2015 with a 28-13 District 1-4A semifinal victory over Springfield (Montco) Friday night at Grigg Memorial Stadium.

Darden is also a shutdown corner on the other side of the ball and was a major force that limited Springfield quarterback Max Perry to just 24 Daniel Dardenpassing yards in the historic win. Perry had thrown for more than 1,000 yards this season before running into Darden and the stern Pottstown pass defense.

“Over the past two years, I can only remember one receiver beating Daniel,” Pottstown coach Mark Fischer said of Darden, a starter since his sophomore season. “We can match him up with any team’s top receiver and he won’t give up a catch. Daniel gives 100 per cent on every play and is very coachable.”

He’s part of the football renaissance at Pottstown with two-way threats including brother junior LB/WR Dereck Darden (100-plus tackles this season), senior FS-WR Nehemiah Figueroa (PAC-high 7 interceptions), senior OG-DT Destyn Snyder and junior QB/CB Josiah Wiggins.

For the season, Daniel has rushed for 435 and three touchdowns on 135 carries, caught six passes for 53 yards and has posted the following numbers on defense for the season: 15 tackles, 1 tackle-for-loss, 1 interception, 3 passes defended.

Pottstown plays at neighborhood rival Pottsgrove Friday night (7 pm) for the District 1-4A championship.
