Pottstown High School Career Technical Education students had the opportunity to show their skills at the Skills USA Regional competition recently held at the Lancaster County Career and Technical Center.

 

Students competed against other technical centers from Montgomery, Lancaster, Franklin, Adams, York, Lebanon, Dauphin, Berks, and Chester Counties.The ten person Team Trojans group may have been one of the smallest teams, but they made their presence know. At the end of the day Zach Beekley proved to be the most skillful in Related Technical Math by placing first and earning a trip to the state tournament held at Hershey in April.

 

The competition uses role-playing, written testing, speeches, performances, and/or career-specific skills to test the student's knowledge in their career path. Pottstown's Director of Career Technical Education, Jeff Delaney said, "The Skills USA competition is an incredible experience for our students. They are able to test their knowledge and ability against other CTE students and challenge themselves. I am so proud of the responses we received from the judges on the ability of our students and the manner in which they carried themselves. 

 

Students working both independently and with a partner were able to showcase their skills and demonstrate their workplace readiness." Students chosen from their classes to represent their specific CTE programs were; Grace Bainbridge (Early Childcare), Angelica Calel (Marketing), Rebecca Harper and Nate Wilson (Automotive), Paige Jones (Healthcare), Kiana Williams and Nikita Dyches (Cosmetology), Magdalana Onate (Culinary), Zach Beekley and Jacob Eames (Engineering).
