Recess on cold days
Image result for cold day gif  With colder weather arriving, this is a timely reminder that unless temperatures are below freezing, we will likely be going outside for recess.  Please be certain that children have adequate coats, gloves, and hats or hoods.

3 class members on undefeated football team

Congratulations to classs members Kassidy Jackson, Rahmere Jenkins, and Marcus Williams, members of the 3rd Grade Pottstown PAL Youth Football Team.  Their team finished the season with a 10-0 undefeated season.  Even more impressive is that they held their opponents scoreless throughout the season.  Read more about it on this link to the Mercury:       https://www.pressreader.com/usa/the-mercury-pottstown-pa/20181111/282230896714781

Fall Conference Times Set
Fall conferences will take place on Monday, November 19 and Tuesday, November 20.  You should have already received your conference date and time from your child.  If not, please contact me.

Beginning this year, report cards are available electronically.  For the first marking period, they will be available beginning November 9th.

There are both afternoon and evening conferences. We arrange to have sibling conference times next to each other. I attempt to accommodate each parent's first choice for conference times.  If I do not receive a returned conference time request form, I assign times.  If the assigned time is inconvenient for you, please let me know lor call the office.   Tuesday afternoon and evening times are typically always available.

Once more, if you do not receive your conference time from your child by November 5th,  please contact the office or me.

Lincoln celebrates American Education Week
One of the ways Pottstown School District celebrates National Education Week is by issuing a special invitation. Please join us by observing your child in class during one of the following times:
  • November 12th - 9:30 -11:00
  • November 13th - 9:30 -11:00
There will be a signin sheet in each classroom.  For everyone's safety, EVERYONE must sign in.

You are asked to not bring infants, toddlers, or preschoolers.  You are also asked to avoid conversing with your child during instruction.

We hope to see you here!

Investigating Pumpkins
Do larger pumpkins have more seeds than smaller pumpkins?   We weighed them.  We measured their height and circumference.  Then we cut them open and counted the seeds.

The students discovered that pumpkin size did not seem to matter.  Some of the smaller pumpkins had more seeds than some of the largest.  And some of the largest pumpkins had more seeds than the smaller ones.

Lots of pics of this school year out there
Be certain to check "Our Class Pictures" for some pics of our class activities.

Archived Photos Now online!
Photos of Mr. Koman's classes of 2014, 2015, 2016, 2017, as well as the current year, 2018,  are now being displayed under "Our Class Pictures".

Recommended hours of sleep from The American Academy of Sleep Medicine
The latest research is in on the number of hours of sleep children need.
We Recycle!
In order to practice what we preach  regarding being responsible citizens and good stewards of our Earth, we are recycling clean paper, plastic, and metal cans in our classroom.

Box Tops for Education
We are collecting Box Tops for Education.  I offer an incentive to bring them in.
On homework

Yes, I give homework some weekends. It is not much.  Still, If something does not seem reasonable to you, please drop me a note. Chances are a student is confused. I'm the most reasonable person I can think of when it comes to homework.  Homework is meant for practice of things we learn. It is not busy work and not excessive.  Check out the Homework Policy on the left for more information.

Our class is now receiving positive reinforcement for homework.  When it is completed, extra credit will be awarded.  This can be either assignment-based or added at the end of a marking period.

If you would like to talk with me regarding the hows and whys of this, please let me know.

About Assessment Folders
All assessments will come home in a folder labeled "Assessments." These should be coming home approximately every other week . Please review your child's work with him/her. Help them understand what they might have gotten wrong and why. I ask that you then sign the attachment on the front so I know that you've seen the assessments, then return all of the assessments to me along with your signature.

I will return all papers at the end of the marking period. Meanwhile, having them available to me helps with monitoring individual progress.

Don't forget... parents and students can check most recent grades, missing assignments, etc. at any time by visiting Home Access Center on the right side of this site's main page.
