Mrs. Hoshaw

Welcome to the 2017- 2018 School Year!  My name is Lori Hoshaw and I am the General Music teacher for both Barth and Lincoln Elementary Schools.  I am excited to begin the new school year!

A little bit about me- I have both my Bachelor's and Masters of Music Education from West Chester University.  My master's is concentrated on the Orff methodology which incorporates Xylophones, creative movement, speech, and language.  I also have further studies from Pacific Lutheran University in Special education.

My passion is teaching music! In addition to teaching the general music classes, I also teach the 4th Grade Chorus, recorder club, and keyboard club. Students in these groups perform in the Barth Winter Night Concert and Art and Music Night at both schools.  Recorder students study this beginning instrument in both 3rd and 4th grade. They also participate in a program called "Recorder Karate, where they can earn "Karate Belts", which they affix to their recorders for every song they learn how to play.

In General Music class we play many ethnic and classroom instruments and we perform creative movement and numerous folk dances. We also use technology such as the smart board to aid in learning how to read and write music.  Piano or Keyboards are also studied in the upper grades.

I am looking forward to a great school year with all of the students!
